The firm represents a host of nonprofit organizations across Vermont. The firm’s legal work for nonprofits includes all aspects of non-profit practice, including incorporation, mergers, drafting Articles of Association and Bylaws, assistance with real estate purchases and office leases, preparation and review of construction contracts and contracts with design professionals, assistance with personnel matters and training on issues such as risk management, the role of Boards of Directors and confidentiality requirements under State and Federal law.
In addition, the firm assists non-profits with their substantive work, including the development of policies and procedures, assistance with the legal aspects of program development, contract work of all types, review of insurance issues, and advice on an array of matters ranging from handling of subpoenas and complex issues involving confidentiality. The firm also provides active representation of non-profits in the event of litigation or administrative proceedings. All partners in the firm have extensive experience in working with non-profits, including several whose work with non-profits date from the early 1980’s.
